Doomscroll Antidote Series

I created this series to channel what I was feeling on a daily / hourly / minute-by-minute basis around current events, news, war, acts of violence, and other atrocities we’re living through. This piece began as a really large canvas that took up a significant portion of my wall. I aggressively threw paint at it. I put a lot of pressure on it, scrubbing paints and charcoal into the texture of the raw canvas. I used unconventional tools, whatever was around, including my hands and fingernails to smear, scrape, and mix. I created a rage-filled mess, which was exactly what I needed.

Once it felt complete, something still needed to change. It dawned on me that this doesn’t have to be one piece. This can become multiple pieces, different sizes and shapes. Each of the individual paintings are not titled, but the series is called Doomscroll Antidote

And this is not just about the act of doomscrolling. It’s about everything we feel as we’re subjected constantly to violent extremism, pain, confusion, and inhumane conditions that we face or witness others face. We’re lied to, manipulated, and we’re shown curated versions of events or blocked from even seeing them at all. We’re fed content that is nearly impossible to decipher real from AI. It’s the most unnerving, uncomfortable feeling that I can’t describe with words.

If you are also feeling things that are too hard to articulate, let these paintings hold those feelings for you as they’re holding them for me.

I will be donating a significant portion of sales from this series to the National Immigration Law Center (IG: @nilc). As we see the horrific actions ICE and this administration have taken to harm immigrants, this is one small way to help. If you want to donate directly, please do.
